BIO Girls Outcome Research

The Study Purpose and Design:

  • The purpose of this research study is to evaluate the self-esteem and well-being of girls participating in BIO Girls in order to demonstrate program effectiveness. This study is being conducted by BIO Girls.

  • Parents/guardians participating in the study will be asked to complete a brief set of questions following the online registration and another at the end of the program. These questions will ask about girls’ self-esteem, health, and relationships.

  • Girls participating in the study will be asked to complete a survey during the first session and at the last session of the program. The survey will assess self-esteem across multiple domains (including academic, social, family, and body) and well-being (e.g., feelings of nervousness, worry, irritability).

Data Usage:

  • Survey responses will be coded via a unique identifier in order to maintain anonymity. Names will initially be collected in order to link surveys collected at the beginning and end of the program; however, names will not be used in any other way during the research.

  • Responses will be analyzed collectively for the purposes of understanding overall effectiveness of the BIO Girls program.

  • Analyzed results will be shared and discussed with BIO Girls directors, donors, and other stakeholders and may be presented at professional conferences and in journal articles.

Longitudinal Data Collection:

  • BIO Girls is also looking to evaluate possible long-term benefits of participating in the program. Thus, if parents/guardians indicated that they are willing to participate in the longitudinal portion of this research study, they will be contacted in the future to complete brief surveys to help determine the impact of BIO Girls over time.
