Jenna Gilbertson Steiner | Board Chair
Jenna is originally from the Detroit Lakes, MN area and considers herself a Minnesota Girl for life. She currently lives in Fargo with her husband Terry and Baby Steiner will join them this fall. She is the office manager and optician at McCulley Optix Gallery, and Vision Therapist with McCulley Vision Therapy. She has a bachelor of Arts in Youth and Family Ministry from Trinity Lutheran College, and was a participant in the 2015 class of United Way's 35 under 35 program. She believes strongly in empowering girls to run the world.
Kristi Spindler | Vice Chair
Kristi Spindler, Human Resources Divisional Director and Recruitment Manager at KLJ, has over 14 years of human resources experience with most of her career focused in the engineering consulting industry. Kristi grew up just south of Duluth, MN, lived in Minneapolis for 10 years after receiving her undergrad, and has now been in Fargo with her husband and two daughters since 2014. Kristi received her bachelor’s degree from The College of St. Scholastica in Duluth, MN and has a Master’s degree in Organizational Management from Concordia University in St. Paul, MN. Kristi has been an avid soccer player her entire life and volunteers as a soccer coach for her daughters’ soccer team.
Jamie Passanante | Treasurer
Jamie Passanante is the owner of Balance Accounting, an accounting and tax firm in Fargo, ND. Before joining the firm in 2014, Jamie worked for Tharaldson Ethanol and affiliate companies and an accounting firm in White Bear Lake, MN. She is a graduate of Concordia College in Moorhead. With three active children, Jamie volunteers as a basketball coach, Sunday School teacher and when time allows fits in some exercise for herself. Jamie serves as treasurer overseeing the financial health of BIO Girls. Jamie, her husband and children live in Fargo, ND.
Trudy Boelter | Secretary
Trudy has worked in the Communications industry for over 17 years. She has held multiple positions with Consolidated Communications with her current role being a Technical Support Engineer helping manage projects, budgets and inventory with the Plant Engineers. Trudy has volunteered for many organizations including United Way, Salvation Army and she is an active volunteer at Olivet Lutheran Church. She has served as a BIO Girls mentor for four years. Trudy resides in Moorhead, MN with her husband and four children.
Sara Lau | Director
A native of Fargo, Sara Lau holds a CPA license in the State of North Dakota. She practices at Haga Kommer, Ltd focusing on small business accounting and tax. Prior to this role, she worked five years in public accounting specializing in Healthcare, and two years of industry accounting. Sara holds a Business Marketing Degree from the University of Minnesota and a Bachelor’s Degree in Accounting from Minnesota State University Moorhead. She volunteers as the Treasurer for Trinity Lutheran Church’s Women’s board, and is an active alumni of the United Way’s 35 Under 35 Women’s Leadership Program. Sara, her husband Matthew, and their two young children live in Moorhead, MN.
Lisa Klabunde | Director
Lisa Klabunde is the Assistant Principal of Wilton Public Schools just North of Bismarck. Prior to this role she was the director of the Coalition to End Child Sexual Abuse, a prevention campaign that is committed to mobilizing our entire community to end child sexual abuse through education and awareness. Lisa also spent several years in education as a middle school counselor at Cheney Middle School in West Fargo, ND. She will use her education background and social-emotional lens to grow and support the BIO Girls curriculum. She is a graduate of North Dakota State University and received a Masters Degree in Counseling from the University of Mary, Bismarck, ND. A mother to a young son, Lisa and her husband Jerod reside in West Fargo, ND.
Alison Zima | Director
Alison Zima is the Director of Information Services for the South East Education Cooperative. Alison has 10 years of communications and marketing experience along with program management and information technology services. She is also an executive founding member of the Power of 100 Women Who Care of the Red River Valley. A graduate of Minnesota State University Moorhead, she earned a Bachelors degree in Mass Communications with an emphasis in advertising and public relations. She lives in West Fargo with her husband Tyler and two children. She will serve as a Director on the board with a focus on marketing.
Leslie Wolf | Director
Leslie Wolf is a Finance Manager at Sanford Health with nearly 10 years of Finance experience. Leslie graduated from North Dakota State University with a bachelor’s degree in Finance and the University of North Dakota with a Masters of Business Administration. She enjoys spending time on Pelican Lake with family during the summer and loves the little, every day moments with her children. Leslie, her husband Chad and two young children live in Fargo, ND.
Sarah Nupdal | Director
Sarah Nupdal holds the title of Vice President, Legal Counsel, Banking at Bell Bank. She earned her undergraduate business degree and her law degree from the University of North Dakota and will forever be a Fighting Sioux fan. Sarah is originally from Fargo, and is thrilled to be raising a family in the wonderful community she grew up in. She is a graduate of the United Way’s 35 under 35 Women’s Leadership Program. Sarah enjoys spending time at the lake, traveling, reading and managing the organized chaos of life, along with her husband Nick and their two toddlers.

Missy Heilman | Executive Director
Determined. Fearless. Leader.
Missy is the chief dreamer behind BIO Girls. It started in 2012 with a vision to create a positive, inclusive (non-competitive) program where girls could be themselves. Out of this dream, BIO Girls was born. In just eight years, Missy's leadership has helped BIO Girls grow from a single program impacting 32 girls to more than 50 locations serving thousands of girls each year. As Executive Director, Missy works closely with the Board of Directors to craft the vision of BIO Girls, serves as the primary mission evangelist, oversees program operations and curriculum development and loves using her marketing background to promote the program. Missy also enjoys speaking engagements where she can spread the passion for the BIO Girls program.
Angie Will | Site Success Manager
Passionate. Dedicated. Coach.
Angie has been involved as a volunteer with BIO Girls since the first-ever session. Her passion for our youth and dedication to BIO Girls is unmatched. In 2015, she took on the challenge of managing site expansion long before a paycheck was even a possibility. The growth of BIO Girls has been in large part to her ability to coach and motivate our volunteer force. She continues to support our Site Directors and manage site logistics to ensure successful program execution.
Betsy Stadick | Site Success Manager
Driven. Spirited. Advisor.
Betsy Stadick joined the BIO Girls team after spending nineteen years in the technology industry including roles ranging from executive leadership and services management with Summit Group Software, to program and project management with Microsoft. Betsy holds both a Bachelor of Science (BS) and Masters Degree in Business Administration (MBA) from North Dakota State University. Betsy is also a graduate of the United Way 35 Under 35 Women’s Leadership Program. Betsy and partner Pete live in Fargo, ND and are the proud, busy parents of three kids – including one BIO Girls Alumna.
Macy Francisco | Marketing Manager
Ambitious. Inspired. Creative.
Macy joined the BIO Girls team with her passion for marketing, storytelling and vision sharing. Originally from Duluth, M.N., she received her bachelor's degree in marketing at the University of North Dakota. Macy's previous experience includes social media marketing, outreach and event coordination with a Midwest retailer. Macy's go-getter attitude, infectious positive energy, and genuine love for people has her eager to be a driving force within the community.
Heidi King | Site Success Manager
Grit. Integrity. Mentor.
Heidi has been involved with BIO Girls for a number of years volunteering as a mentor and with various activities. Heidi is passionate about making a difference in the community and her favorite part of being a mentor and volunteer is seeing the joy, confidence and spirit of the participants soar. Heidi has a Culinary Arts background and will be graduating next spring with a Bachelors in Business Administration from Mayville State. Heidi is also a graduate of the United Way of Cass- Clay 35 Under 35 Women’s Leadership Program. Heidi and her husband, Rob, live in Moorhead with their spunky, energetic English springer spaniel, Jet.

Semi-formal, but rock your sneakers!
You Be You is BIO Girls’ annual fundraising gala. We welcomed guests young and old as we hosted Olympian speaker, Carrie Tollefson. Former BIO Girl, Gabby Wolf, shared her BIO Girls experience and how it has helped her past her years of participation. We gave away some pretty incredible prizes like 1 carat diamond earrings from Crown Jewels!
We took one night to celebrate girls and all that they are: bright, bold, brave and beautiful, inside and out!
