Celebrating Years of Impact: Alexandria, Minnesota
Today we travel to Alexandria, Minnesota, where BIO Girls has had a presence in the community since 2019 impacting hundreds of girls along the way. Leaders Sarah Nicholls and Amanda Gramm have been at the helm since 2020 and together, with the help of an incredible mentor team, they continue to build a solid resource for girls in their community through BIO Girls.
When a BIO Girls program, like Alexandria, becomes a recurring program in the community, it gives participants the opportunity to return as Junior Mentors. Junior Mentors are girls in grades 7-12 who are paired up with a mentor to help with small group sessions. Some of been past participants of the program and some join as Junior Mentors to develop leadership skills and be positive role models for younger girls. This year, Alexandria welcomed sisters, Autumn and Neveah, as Junior Mentors.
Here’s what they had to say:
“We both wanted to become Jr. Mentors because our time with BIO Girls was a great experience, and we both want to have a way to give back and be positive role models to girls younger than us.”
All BIO Girls programs complete a service project midway through their season. This year, Alexandria participants visited a care facility where they decorated Valentines and cards with the residents and distribute them to short and long term care residents. This act of service shows that giving back has no age limit. How about this sweet note that they received back!
“My parents were recipients of this project. They really enjoyed the time with the girls. They are always happy to interact with young people. There is so much they can teach other. Thank You!”
