Kristi Spindler

BIO Girls Board of Directors,
Vice Chair

Here at BIO Girls, we believe that everyone deserves to know their worth, and we are here to make it happen! There are many different roles in our company to be filled by wonderful people, and one person who has stepped up in many ways is Kristi Spindler. Kristi is a Human Resource Divisional Director and Recruitment Manager at KLJ and has focused most of her career on the engineering consulting industry.

She lives in Fargo with her husband and two young girls. She played soccer for 25 years, and considers juggling the ball with her feet one of her best hidden talents. Kristi is the Vice Chair of our Board of Directors and is also a mentor at the EHP CrossFit site.

What is your connection to BIO Girls?

Board Member.

How long have you been involved with BIO Girls?

Two and a half years.

What drew you to become involved with BIO Girls?

A friend who knows Missy connected me to her when they were looking for board members.

The BIO Girls mission is "to improve the self-esteem of adolescent girls through empowerment of self and service to others." How do you resonate with the mission?

I have two little girls six and eight, and being a female so I am very aware of the hurdles and challenges you face growing up and from being a woman and [I am] very aware of the hurdles and challenges you face as you grow up in general. I resonate with this because I think BIO Girls is a proactive solution to make sure that our girls can grow into confident, kind, brave, strong females and make sure they have a strong sense of self. I want to make sure we have a strong next generation of females in the world.

Do you have an impact story from your involvement with BIO Girls?

I have had the opportunity to be a BIO Girls mentor two years in a row. I have been able to see girls that maybe started without the highest confidence level or belief in themselves. By the end of the session, seeing them run that 5K you could see them believe in themselves and get that confidence boost. That is the biggest impact story I've seen first hand, seeing the girls get that confidence and building a relationship with them.

Name one way BIO Girls has impacted you personally.

It is rewarding and fulfilling to be a part of an organization that is making such a huge impact on our girls.

What is your favorite part of being on the BIO Girls board?

I have a strong HR background, putting my professional experience to use to grow the company has been really rewarding.

If you could have lunch with one person, who would it be?

Sheryl Sandberg, author of the book Lean In because she empowers women in the workplace.

What is the last book you read?

Lean Out by Marissa Orr, which is a rebuttal to Lean In, another book on the same perspective. There are a lot of positives that came out of this book as well. There are a million perspectives on everything, so it is important to learn as many as possible.

Thank you, Kristi, for your dedication to the mission we have at BIO Girls. We are so grateful to have an advocate like you!
