Volunteer Highlight — Betsy Stadick

Meet Betsy Stadick!

Betsy Stadick is a Site Director formerly at our Fargo, ND - Olivet Lutheran site and now at our Fargo, ND HQ site. She has been volunteering with BIO Girls since 2019! We are so inspired by Betsy’s continuous generosity.

Betsy – thank you! Our team, the girls you have made an impact on, and the Fargo community sincerely thank you.

  • What is your favorite lesson or mantra?

    • “We rise by lifting others..”

  • Why do you love volunteering for BIO Girls?

    • “Like so many women - I wish my friends and I had BIO Girls when we were kids. BIO Girls is fun, it's not a SPORT, and it brings these girls lessons on taking on challenges, being brave and kind, and looking within themselves - just when they need it. My FAVORITE part of BIO Girls every season is the Community Service Project Day. It's my privilege to show these girls they are never too young to make a difference... and to prove to them that the feeling they get from serving others is magic!"

  • Do you have an impactful story to share from your volunteer experience?

    • “I had a participant a few seasons ago who really enjoyed BIO Girls and I really enjoyed getting to know her. She is smart, has lots to contribute in small group, is so funny and has an impressive vocabulary! She and I got to know each other a little better than the average volunteer/participant combo - because it was often just she and I together on the run/walk each week. And this girl absolutely HATED the running. She had a hard time with it physically, as such it was also a big mental and emotional challenge for her every week. Over the course of 12 weeks - she made enormous strides. It wasn't easy, at all, but this girl completed the 5K on the last day and it was an incredible accomplishment for her. She even commented at the race how much easier it was for her that day vs. the first day - and could see her own progress and felt really proud.

The really rewarding part for me as a mentor/site leader... came several seasons later... when she was BACK at BIO Girls for her final - 6th grade season! She participated one season at self-defense and was back at our running program. She told her mom she would give it one more try. This season is actually still in progress. :-) It's still not easy - but she KNOWS she can do it. She still doesn't love it - doesn't even like it. But has the confidence and the determination to give it a go one more time so she could be a part of BIO Girls again. I am really proud of her and how far she has come.”
