Volunteer Highlight — Kay Metzger
Meet Kay Metzger
BIO Girls Volunteer in Williston, ND
We’re excited to shine a light on Kay Metzger, who will be entering her third year as a BIO Girls mentor this fall at the Williston site! Having supported both the yoga and running tracks over the past two seasons, her dedication to empowering girls in her community continues to grow.
For Kay, volunteering with BIO Girls is rooted in gratitude for the strong female mentors who have shaped her life — and a deep desire to be that same presence for the next generation.
“I am the wife, daughter, friend, community member and professional I am today because of the numerous female mentors I've had throughout different seasons of my life. The strength, guidance, and support from the women around me have shaped who I am. I volunteer with BIO Girls because I want to give back to my community and be a role model for the next generation of women in our community.”
Favorite Mantra?
“Strong & Proud is special to me and a mantra I hold dearly. I'm especially proud of what my body and mind can do. The strength I know I can demonstrate through the good, the bad, and the ugly is a demonstration of my character and who I strive to be. I'm proud of who I am everyday, and hope others see that and try to be genuine themselves.”
One memory stands out in particular to Kay — a simple yet powerful reminder of why she continues to serve.
“I had a great experience during my first season mentoring with BIO Girls, but hadn't really realized or processed the lasting impact it had on the participants until one day I was at a work function and I had a young girl come up to me and tell me that she remembered me from BIO Girls. Almost a year later, in an unfamiliar setting, this BIO Girl participant recognized me and shared her appreciation for the program, noting that she couldn't wait to participate again. Right then, I knew I needed to continue to volunteer and build positive relationships within my community.”
For Kay, BIO Girls is more than just a weekly program — it’s part of what makes Williston feel like home.
“I'm so happy to be a part of BIO Girls! The impact the program has on the girls in our community is limitless. The presence of BIO Girls in the Williston community is just one reason I continue to make Williston my home; a place I'm proud to live, work and play. The girls in our community are so deserving of a program that fosters strong healthy messaging, positive relationships and a safe space to grow.”
Kay is excited to volunteer for BIO Girls again in the Fall, until then she stated she’ll be traveling, reading, walking her dogs, and golfing with her husband!
Thank you, Kay, for being a shining example of strength, kindness, and authenticity. Your investment in the lives of young girls is building a better future, one relationship at a time.
