Volunteer Highlight — Laney Weimerskirch

meet Laney Weimerskirch!

From participant, to junior mentor.

Laney has been a part of BIO Girls since she was in fifth grade and now, since her seventh-grade year (three years ago!) she has volunteered her time as a junior mentor. We are so inspired by Laney’s time and passion that she has put into changing young girl’s lives.

An even more amazing part of Laney’s story is that one of the young girls that she gets to impact is her sister, Hattie! Both Laney’s mom, Andrea, and sister, Hattie, are a part of the BIO Girls site in Davis County, IA. Andrea said “I am so thankful to the BIO Girls program for giving my girls the tools to be confident in themselves. I recognized the impact the program and its mentors had on my oldest daughter and was excited for my youngest daughter to be able to join. I knew this program wouldn’t be possible without the great mentors my girls had. I wanted to be able to give that experience to other girls by becoming a mentor myself. I am so fortunate to be a part of BIO Girls beside my two daughters!”

Laney– thank you! Our team, the girls you have made an impact on, and the Davis County community sincerely thank you.

  • Why do you love volunteering for BIO Girls?

    • I was lucky enough to be able to participate in BIO girls my fifth grade year. I wanted to give back to the program that gave me so much more confidence and I wanted to help girls realize just how AMAZING they are.

  • Do you have an impactful story to share from your volunteer experience?

    • A young girl that I mentored told me she looked forward to seeing me and gave me big hugs every Monday when she arrived. At first she was really shy and not very outgoing but throughout the program she continued to gain confidence. The next year when she came back I hardly recognized her. She had grown physically but was also so much more confident in herself. When she saw me she gave me a hug and remembered my name. That meant a lot to me!
