Volunteer Highlight — Lindsey Huber

Meet LINDSEY HUBER!

Lindsey Huber has volunteered as a mentor at our Aberdeen, SD, and Groton, SD sites. She has been volunteering with BIO Girls since 2019! We are so inspired by Lindsey’s continuous generosity.

Lindsey – thank you! Our team, the girls you have made an impact on, and the Aberdeen and Groton communities sincerely thank you.

  • What is your favorite lesson or mantra?

    • “One of my favorite lessons was when the girls privately wrote their worries and stressors on pink balloons. We all stood outside and watched as they released their balloons. We all walked away feeling a bit lighter that evening.”

  • Why do you love volunteering for BIO Girls?

    • “I always say that I volunteer at BIO Girls because I would have given anything to participate in program like this when I was young. I was fortunate to have had a wonderful childhood and supportive family. However, think about some obstacles I would have adressed differently, identified relationships that didn’t serve me, and navigated adolescence with more confidence had I been given these tools at a younger age. Since I can't go back in time, stepping into a BioGirls mentor role now allows me to contribute to the larger mission of empowering girls and young women, which can be incredibly fulfilling.

I am also a huge advocate for living healthy and active lifestyles. This organization's approach is grounded in research that shows the benefits of physical activity for girls' physical, emotional, and mental well-being. BioGirls believes that by creating a positive and supportive environment, girls can develop the confidence and skills they need to succeed in all aspects of their lives; I am here for it!."

  • Do you have an impactful story to share from your volunteer experience?

    • “I realized that I had a deep connection with this program the first year when I couldn't stop getting emotional at all of the large group activities. It was hard not to get choked up or misty eyed talking through some of these lessons. I knew that I needed to be there just as much as the girls.”
