Meet Deanna Mattice

BIO Girls Volunteer in Grand Forks, ND - Calvary Church

Meet Deanna Mattice, a dedicated and passionate BIO Girls volunteer who is stepping into a new leadership role this year as a Site Director at Calvary Lutheran Church in Grand Forks, ND, where she’s volunteered for the past three years as a mentor. As she enters her fourth year with the organization, Deanna is eager to embrace this next chapter.

“I’m about to start this year at this site as the director—trying to learn all the things, my oh my!”

For Deanna, volunteering with BIO Girls is a deeply personal mission—one rooted in her love for her daughter.

“My daughter Ariana, who is 11 and also getting ready to start her 4th year with our group, is my biggest why! I want her to know that she truly is beautiful inside and out and to help her build the strength and tools that she needs to face the challenges that our world throws at our young ladies. The longer I spend with our program, the more I want this for all of our girls. I always have told my girls at school that we need to support each other and 'straighten each other’s crowns.”

Favorite Mantra?

“Looking ahead to this year’s curriculum, I am already loving the mantra ‘A true friend lifts me up.’ I think it is so important for our girls to recognize and embrace true friendships while also building a character for themselves that makes each one of them a true friend as well. Social media often creates a false sense of what real friendship is and I want to help dispel that myth.”

Deanna’s genuine love for BIO Girls is evident as she shares how each moment spent with the girls has left a lasting impact.

“I just really love making connections with our girls. Watching them build up each other and grow really inspires me and challenges me to be more as well. I just wish we had the opportunity to share BIO Girls with every girl in our community. I wish everyone could know what a wonderful opportunity this is!”

And when it comes to the running portion of BIO Girls programming, Deanna keeps it real.

“The running can be a challenge for some of our girls—I am certainly not a runner—but I challenge myself to get out there and move, and really that is what it is all about. It’s not a competition against others but a way to promote health and doing whatever your own personal best is!”

We’re so grateful for Deanna’s leadership, heart, and unwavering belief in the power of BIO Girls. Here’s to another incredible year of impact!

thank you, thank you, thank you!!!
