Meet Katie Stensgard!

Katie is our Site Director at our BIO Girls site at Atonement. Katie is dedicated and passionate. That passion has sparked change in the youth of her community far beyond BIO Girls. Katie’s intentional leadership is inspiring and her willingness to serve in any capacity has been so amazing to see. We are so grateful for all she does for the BIO Girls mission.

“Katie has been involved with BIO Girls for many seasons with our running program. In 2021 she took on the challenge of piloting a new program for us: Self Defense. Katie is a great leader and works hard to continue providing a variety of programs for the girls in the FMWF communities.”

— Anna Marohl, BIO Girls Programming Team

We asked Katie a few questions about her involvement with BIO Girls:

What do you do for work?

“I am the Director of Kids Ministry at Atonement.”

Name one-way BIO Girls has impacted you personally?

“As a mother. My children have done three seasons, and I see how it’s resonated with my own kids. All issues are so relevant and very few places truly talk about these topics. The topics aren’t so taboo when you talk about them.”

How do you summarize what BIO Girls provides participants?

“A lot of things we go through as kids carry over into adulthood. BIO Girls teaches how to build positive habits, how to boost your self-esteem, and gives the girls a safe place for them to talk about friendships and what’s going on in life.”

What do you think girls would be missing without BIO Girls?

”I think it’s important to talk about all of the issues girls face today and to give them a safe community to do that in. There isn’t another program like it or anywhere else they are getting something similar.”

Do you have any hidden talents?

“I speak Spanish fluently. I also like to train/compete in Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu.”

What is one piece of advice you would tell your younger self?

“Learn how to self-care. Learn what you need as far as eating right and getting rest, and recognize the thoughts you let in. A lot of us would never talk to others the way we talk to ourselves.”

Katie —

The BIO Girls team, the participants you have made an impact on, and the Fargo community sincerely thank you.
