WHAT IS THE MISSION OF BIO GIRLS?

BIO Girls improves the self-esteem of adolescent girls through empowerment of self and service to others.

WHAT DOES BIO STAND FOR?

BIO stands for Beautiful Inside and Out. We want all girls to believe they are beautiful inside and out.

WHAT IS THE BIO GIRLS PROGRAM?

BIO Girls uses a three-pronged approach to building self-esteem in 2nd – 6th-grade girls:

  1. Life-Skills — lessons focused on emotional well-being, healthy relationships, physical well-being, and servant leadership.

  2. Small-Group Mentoring — a ratio of one adult mentor to 3-4 participants allows mentors to form a relationship with the participants and serve as positive role models.

  3. Physical Activity — we use non-competitive physical activity as a tool to teach girls accountability, introduce exercise as a stress/anxiety reliever, teach goal setting, and experience success.

Our program is evidence-based and research-proven. 7 in 10 participants experience a significant increase in self-esteem, and 50% experience a decrease in anxiety by the end of the program. Check out Our Research and learn more about our Youth Program!

HOW DO I REFER A PARTICIPANT?

Provide the parent/guardian information about BIO Girls.

WHEN SHOULD I START THE REFERRAL PROCESS?

With sites starting at varying times throughout the year, there isn't an exact date to begin referrals. We suggest referring girls 1-3 months prior to the registration date of the specific location site. Referrals should be submitted and confirmed at least one week prior to registration opening.

ARE VOLUNTEERS SCREENED?

Yes, BIO Girls volunteers all complete an application process and background check before they are offered the opportunity to volunteer with our program.

CAN I BRING BIO GIRLS TO MY COMMUNITY?

Absolutely. The more sites we have, the more girls we can reach. You can view the site expansion details on our Get Involved page.
