Volunteer Highlight — Megan Huether
Meet Megan Huether
BIO Girls Volunteer in Lisbon, ND
As Megan Huether enters her fourth season with BIO Girls Lisbon, her heart for empowering girls continues to grow.
When Megan first volunteered, her goal was simple: to help girls feel comfortable as they transitioned through school, new grades, and different stages of life—equipped with the tools that BIO Girls provides.
“The first season I was looking forward to helping our girls feel comfortable transitioning to each school, grade, and stage in their life with the tools that BIO Girls will provide. Now after seeing these tools can help our girls, I am looking forward to our fourth season of teamwork and for our girls to know they are not alone—in life, in daily struggles, in anything!”
For Megan, that sense of community and belonging is at the heart of BIO Girls. It’s a program she wanted to bring to Lisbon for her daughter, inspired by her own wish for something similar growing up.
“I initially wanted to bring BIO Girls to Lisbon for my daughter. It was something I wished I would have had when I was growing up. Seeing the change in her and all of her peers has been so rewarding.”
Megan’s years of mentoring have been filled with powerful reminders of why this program matters. She recalls two moments that stand out:
“On our first lesson of our first year, we had a mom reach out and send a picture of a note her daughter wrote on her mirror after the session. It read, ‘You are strong, don’t let other people bring you down.’ And this last year, we had a participant who was homeschooled. We personally noticed the difference in her confidence each session. She came in not knowing hardly anyone, and the friendships she gained were heartwarming. Her mom thanked us so much for the growth she saw throughout the season—it was so rewarding.”
Megan’s favorite mantra—“Progress over perfection”—is one that resonates deeply with both participants and mentors.
“It’s such an important lesson to know that no one is perfect and you don’t have to be. As long as you keep going and keep trying, we will get better every day. This is definitely one lesson that I think us adults and volunteers benefit from hearing as well.”
Outside of BIO Girls, Megan balances her passion for mentoring with a busy and fulfilling life. She works as a Crop and Livestock Insurance Agent and is married to her wonderful husband, Reed, and mom to Aubree (9) and Easton (6).
Megan’s dedication and heart embody the mission of BIO Girls. Through her leadership, the girls of Lisbon are learning that they are never alone, that progress matters more than perfection, and that they have everything they need to shine.
